The Morritt - Badger Way, Barningham Circular

This is a route, which takes you from the lush parkland surrounding the Morritt Arms and up to the wilder scenery of Barningham Moor.

You first cross a farmyard and go on into Mill Wood. Your way takes you up along a leafy path, which in spring is carpeted with bluebells, alongside, but way up above the River Greta, and onto the Barningham road. After a short stretch of road you return to the fields. Look out for the trig point on Eggmartin Hill.

Follow across fields and past small areas of trees and through a gate onto the moor. From the moorland road The Stang, a vast forest, spreads across the horizon. The track crosses some marshy areas of the moor on planks, placed there to assist grouse shooters to the butts. In this area you will see some pre-historic cup and ring markings on outcrops to the left.

The track continues on across the moors to Badger Way and round taking you down into the village of Barningham and back to your outward path returning by the banks of the River Greta to the Morritt Arms.
