The Morritt - Mortham Tower - Whorlton Lido - Barningham Circular

This walk leads down to the north bank of the River Greta and upward to Mortham Tower, then crossing open countryside and onto Winston Bridge.

The way continues downstream along the bank of the Tees through Whorlton Lido, a popular local beauty spot. A riverside lane takes you from the Lido following past cottages on your left.

The path returns to the fields and continues joining a minor road for a short distance turning back into the fields edging the wood and into another field.

You cross the A66 turning east along the verge and right back into the fields. Your path will take you over a packhorse bridge, through farms and up a wooded bank, exiting through a gate in the deer park wall. A left turn takes you through a kissing gate into Barningham Park.

There is a delightful path beneath the trees which turns right towards a ha ha and descends Barningham Hall drive into the village. Through the churchyard and over the stile, the path joins a minor road.

The end of your walk is across fields until you join another minor road from which you turn left and right along a boarded path with the river Greta flowing gently below on your left. The path descends to the river, through a gate and on downstream back to Greta Bridge and the comforts of Morritt Arms Hotel.
