The Morritt - Brignall Village, Meeting of the Waters Circular

Allow around 3 hours for this walk, which takes you along the banks of the sparkling River Greta flanked by woodland rich in bluebells in the springtime.

A little over a mile along your route, a short deviation from the track brings you to the tranquil site of the ruined church of St Mary's. Here the riverbank becomes broad and low.

Climbing back away from the river, join a grassy lane past the vicarage at Brignall Church. As you join the road, your walk may be shortened by turning right and continuing back down the road to the Morritt Arms.

To complete the circular route, turn left then right into the drive of Brookside.

The next stage of your walk crosses several fields bringing you to a stream running through a wooded dell. Crossing the stream continue through the fields to the A66, crossing to walk past another church standing by the road, through the churchyard and on across pastureland to join, for a short stretch, the road leading from Barnard Castle.

A stroll along this road soon brings you to signing for the Teesdale Way. Here you walk above the River Tees to The Meeting of the Waters where the Greta joins the Tees/ Crossing over Dairy Bridge, you skirt Mortham Tower climbing to a Dutch barn before dropping down to the beautiful arched bridge at Greta Bridge itself.
